We’ve discussed Ricky van Wolfswinkel on IBWM fairly regularly over the last eighteen months for no other reason than we rate him very highly.  VERY, VERY highly.

While we anticipated that the talented Dutch striker would move away from FC Utrecht in the summer of 2011, we didn’t predict Sporting and Portugal’s Liga ZON Sagres as a likely destination, but that’s how it turned out. 

It’s proved a smart move by the Lisbon club as RVW has continued to perform well and it’s more than likely that his solitary cap for Holland will be added to soon and a Euro 2012 place must be likely.  If he's not there we will write a strongly worded letter to Johan Cruyff or something.  Probably.

Despite mention of Manchester United and Barcelona, January was never likely to be time for the Woudenberg striker to move on, but Sporting may find it difficult to retain their man in the summer with the dangling carrot of a hefty profit something of a given.
