MEANWHILE, BACK IN SUNDERLAND

Sunderland’s 1973 FA Cup Final win over Leeds United remains a high water mark, in semi-recent memory at least, for the Wearside club.

The iconic images of Bob Stokoe in his tracksuit, mac and trilby plus Jimmy Montgomery's double save from Trevor Cherry and Peter Lorimer are engraved into the soul of Sunderland fans and are immediately recognisable to many football supporters the world over.

We could dig out a highlights package of the final itself, but this film, produced by Tyne Tees Television in 1973, captures the other side of a memorable day.  Originally titled ‘Meanwhile, back in Sunderland’ the film visits the streets and houses of Sunderland on Cup Final day.

Apologies in advance for the slightly grainy footage, but this is a wonderful piece of video that anyone can enjoy……well, almost anyone.

We’ve done this to you before Leeds fans, but, rest assured, we’ll give you something special again soon....
