BANAL BY SWELLS
There's something going on in the West Javan city of Bandung. We've seen psych rock from the likes of Napolleon and Thunder Sanchez before, and now comes this from Swells.
Flavoured massively by the Manchester scene of the 1990s, the four-piece declare the influence of the Stone Roses and Charlatans.
This, their debut single, was released in very limited editions on three formats - 3.5" floppy disk (there's one for the teenagers), digitally and on memory cards. Singer Satria Prabhawa says the idea for the song came during in an Arts and Spiritulaity lecture at the college where all four of the band study, where, nodding off during a lecture, he confused what the professor was saying and came up with the phrase 'the daily reality of everything is just laughable'. Which it is.
An EP is expected later in the year, but for now, feast your ears.
