ALL SMOKE NO FIRE BY BENIN CITY
Gentrification, they call it. Pubs and clubs are closing at record rates, the demand for luxury flats seemingly insatiable.
And nowhere is it worse than in London, home town of Joshua Idehen - who we have featured before as part of Hugh - and his band Benin City. The closure of Fabric was merely the latest and most high-profile venue to be shut down, but you'll all be familiar with stories of pubs being demolished without permission and owners of flats built above a cinema complaining about noise from the cinema, as if it was some sort of fucking surprise.
In All Smoke No Fire, Benin City rage against the trend. This is an unashamedly angry record. Who has pride in this culture? When everything is up for sale, seemingly nobody.
