IMARHAN BY IMARHAN
Drawing on traditional Tuareg music and African ballads as well as funk, jazz and rock, Algerian band Imarhan started out around 2008 as a loose collection of friends that played together. Additionally, front man Sadam has a cousin in pioneering Tuareg band Tinariwen, and while similarities are easy to draw, Imarhan is altogether a more eclectic proposition, preferring leather jackets and jeans rather than Tinariwen's traditional Tuareg togs.
Their self-titled debut LP came out in April and also features a self-titled track which we feature here. And while that's verging dangerously on Living In A Box territory, Imarhan have a lot more going for them and are likely to be around for a long time to come.
