A SENSE OF IDENTITY: THE PAINE PROFFITT GALLERY
With more than a passing reference to the sublime L.S. Lowry, Paine Profitt is one of the most respected football artists in operation right now. Leaden skies, satanic mills, smoking chimneys, flat caps and a dash of art deco are all in evidence as Paine’s matchday posters capture the essence of football’s working class spirit:
“In my paintings I've wanted to touch on our feeling of who we are, where we come from, and what we care about. Some of my work is about the sense of identity, home, history, love, culture, and the joys and hardships of life. A large section of my work focuses on football ... for me and many, football is a passion and love. The game is central to who we are, where we come from, our past, our family and religion, and there's an emotional bond between ourselves, our club, our supporters and our town. I aim to capture what the game means to us, whether a memory, a moment, or a connection.”
We are delighted to feature some of Paine’s work in our Gallery, and if you’d like to see more please visit http://www.paineproffitt.com
