FC SOCHAUX-MONTBELIARD BY LOTTO
When Sylvain Armand scored Paris St Germain’s sixth goal against FC Sochaux on 22 April, Les Lionceaux looked ready for the last rites. When Bordeaux picked up a convincing 3-0 win at Sochaux’s Stade Auguste Bonal a week later, the home side were gone.
Another defeat, this time to relegation rivals Ajaccio followed and confirmed what every French football watcher worth their sel already knew. A team that had performed so well in Ligue 1 during 2010-11 were going down. In less than a year, Marvin Martin, Modibo Maiga and Ryad Boudebouz had gone from heroes to zeros....
However, back to back wins against Nancy and Caen have seen Sochaux pull clear of the relegation zone, and the final round of matches in France is going to be pretty exciting. While all eyes will be on Montpellier picking up the point they need to clinch the league (good luck!*), any two from eight clubs can still fall through the Ligue 1 trap door alongside Auxerre.
Sochaux are at home to Marseille this weekend, a game that might have been much trickier had l’OM not been so half arsed this season, and the Montbéliard club will take to the field in this new kit from Lotto.
* We are ALWAYS impartial, but PSG, with pots of cash, will get their share of trophies in the coming years. For Montpellier, it’s now or never….allez la Paillade!
