VUELVE LA CULTURA A BOEDO BY LOS CUERVOS DE POE

Los Cuervos de Poe (The Crows/Ravens of Poe) are supporters of Argentinian club San Lorenzo that have been taking stadium songs, normally sung by thousands, and re-interpreting them into intimate acoustic versions.

The Cuervos have titled the series "Vuelve la cultura a Boedo", which is their contribution to a grassroots campaign to re-acquire the property of the original club stadium in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Boedo. San Lorenzo lost the stadium and club property during the military dictatorship in the late 1970's. The property was then sold on for a sizable profit for members of municipal military government in 1983 to Carrefour, who opened a supermarket at the location. Since the early 2000s, San Lorenzo supporters have organized protests (tens of thousands in the downtown core) and lobbied the city to expropriate the property, last year, in November, they won the legislative approval but need to collect money to pay for the expropriation. Supporters are buying a 1m2 piece of the land for $3000 pesos - around US$600 each. One of the claims of the campaign is that with a return of the club to the neighbourhood, the social and cultural life that happened when the club was located there, will also return.
