UMBRO'S SEARCH FOR GOLAÇOS
Golaços or great goals are what make the football world go round. And whether it’s freestyle or free-kicks, not many players do beautiful football better than the Brazilians.
Roberto Carlos scored some incredible goals during his career with Real Madrid and Brazil – most notably the free-kick against France at Le Tournoi in 1997 represented in the specially commissioned artwork (the above piece is by IBWM favourite Stanley Chow, the below by Victor Beuren) you see accompanying this piece.
Inspired by this iconic goal, Umbro has teamed up with the Brazilian World Cup winner to find a new generation of golaços. The competition calls on football players across the world to capture and share their own amazing goals via Umbro’s special Golaço app. Roberto Carlos will select five winners who’ll get to enjoy the ultimate Brazilian football experience which includes:
- Return flights to Brazil [plus a parent, guardian or friend]
- Exclusive football skills session with Roberto Carlos
- Learn to play the Samba way at Clube Atlético Paranaense, one of the best football facilities in Brazil
- Full professional training kit and boots from Umbro
A free-kick. A bicycle kick. An audacious backheel. A cheeky chip. A lob from the halfway line. A mazy dribble. An individual effort or a masterpiece of team-work. A golaço can take many forms but it’s simply an amazing goal. A moment of magic. The Umbro Golaço app lets football players around the world upload videos of their finest goals and then share them with their friends online. The app also lets you view other entries and vote for your favourites and is available for both iOS and Android smart phones and tablets and can be downloaded from iTunes and the Google Play store from today. Desktop users can also enter the competition via Umbro’s Facebook page. Use the hashtag #UmbroGolaço to share your video on Twitter and get support from your friends and family.
