Luc Castaignos     19     Striker     Internazionale

Luc Castaignos was already receiving a lot of attention from the world's wealthiest clubs when he was doing his thing for Holland at the 2009 Under 17 European Championships.

Having broken the record for goals scored at under 17 level for his country, there was always a sense of the inevitable about a move for Castaignos. As soon as he had forced his way into the first team at Feyenoord, some wealthy powerhouse would be only too keen to whisk the young Dutchman away.

A wretched season for the Rotterdam club didn’t really make it likely that Castaignos would stick around and when Inter came calling this summer there was only going to be one outcome.

Now located in Milan, it’s unlikely that the quick and intelligent striker will get the opportunity of much game time just yet.  Although one thing that Inter desperately need right now is an injection of youthful exuberance and Castaignos can certainly provide that.

Comparisons with Thierry Henry are around five years premature but the Dutch youngster will want to make as many appearances as he can now he has found a home in Italy.  With a number of nations ready to lay claim to Castaignos’ services at international level (his father, rather ironically, possesses an Italian passport), a call up to the full Dutch team for friendly duty ahead of Euro 2012 is a given.

A bright talent and while pitching up at Inter isn’t a guarantee of success these days, Castaignos might just be arriving at the right place at the right time with his new employers needing to rebuild.

It won’t happen immediately, so patience - from fans, player and coaches – is essential if this rough diamond is to truly sparkle.

"Should have stayed at Feyenoord where he was beginning to make an impact. Not even included in the Champions League squad at the Giuseppe Meazza and looks fifth choice at best behind the likes of Forlan, Pazzini, Zarate and Milito. Could have learned the lesson of Marko Arnautovic." - John Dobson (Journalist)
