OLYMPIC BY FRENCH 79
Simon Henner is something of a restless musician. Founder of the groups Nasser, Husbands (alongside Kid Francescoli) and Oh! Tiger Mountain - all ongoing projects - Henner has this month released Olympic, his debut album under the electro pop guise French 79.
While Daft Punk continue to cumulate the lion's share of attention, a burgeoning synth scene is resonating outwards from France with Henner at the forefront. With a more direct lineage to Jean Michel Jarre than the aforementioned Nile Rodgers collaborators, Olympic has roots in the early house movement but nods also to several pioneers of the electronic arts, such as the Human League in their early stages and mid 1980s Jan Hammer, are manifestly evident.
A fine example of the genre, Olympic is available now on Alter K.
