JORGE WILSTERMANN AND THE PASSION OF THE GURKAS

Club Jorge Wilstermann were relegated from Bolivia’s top flight – the Liga de Fútbol Profesional Boliviano – last season.  Perhaps not as iconic a South American name as Santos, River or even Bolivar, the Cochabamba club remain one of their nation's most prominent and best supported teams.

Named after Bolivia’s first commercial aviator, Wilster have been national champions on three separate occasions, a semi finalist in the 1981 Copa Libertadores and can count on legendary Brazilian Jairzinho as a former player.

Despite a recent downturn in fortunes, as with any club, the passion of Wilster’s fans remains as fervent as ever.  Photographer Steve Camargo took his camera along to the Estadio Félix Capriles recently and captured some wonderful images of the club’s Barra Brava’s, the Gurkas
