THE HORSESHOE BY MEATRAFFLE

Last weekend, we went gigging. To Hebden Trades Club to see the Fat White Family (hearing in right ear still not quite there). Supporting the Fat Whites were South Londoners Meatraffle, entirely new on us. Championed by the Fat Whites - "the greatest band in the country right now bar none" they wrote on their Facebook page - they were quite the unexpected smash.
It's difficult to describe exactly what they are. There's post-punk, there's reggae, psychedelia and lots and lots of reverb.
Looking them up reveals an album, Hi-Fi Classics, which came out on November 13. It's really good. Chaotic without ever being messy, overtly political and also nerdy and with one of the great covers - Lenin with an iron.

Shame we didn't actually get a meat raffle at the gig. We presume they'll be introducing that later.
Get Hi-Fi Classics from their bandcamp page and look them up on Facebook. If they're playing near you, go. If anything, the songs work better live.
